What’s happening with the food safety bill RIGHT NOW
By Consumers Union on Friday, December 17th, 2010
In a cliff’s notes version of what’s happening, the food safety reform bill that the Senate passed a couple of weeks ago and sent to the House for final approval was sent back to the Senate because of a technicality. Now, with little time left in the calendar year, the Senate is supposed to attach the food safety bill to a bigger government funding bill they’ll be voting on tomorrow. But right now it’s up in the air whether or not food safety will make it into the bill. If it doesn’t, it dies.
70 years since the last food safety overhaul. A bill to help protect consumers that has already passed both houses. We can’t let it die now!
Here’s what you can do: call your Senators RIGHT NOW and tell them that food safety reform must be included when they vote on the spending bill tomorrow. The number is toll-free. Just call in and follow the instructions to be connected to your Senators: 1-877-481-9966
This is IT!!! Even if you’ve called your Senators before on this issue, please call again. It only takes a few seconds, but your calls are critical to prevent food safety reform efforts from collapsing.
Thank you – and please call now! 1-877-481-9966
