The FTC announced the winner of the Robocalls: Humanity Strikes Back contest. The winners were  Ethan Garr and Bryan Moyles who created RoboKiller. From the FTC:

RoboKiller gives consumers greater control over how and when they receive calls by sending robocalls to a SpamBox that consumers can access at any time, utilizes consumer-controlled white and black list filtering, and provides personalized setting options.

We can not applaud the FTC’s efforts enough. These kinds of technological breakthroughs from smart and industrious people are really amazing and they deserve a tremendous amount of praise.

However, solutions like RoboKiller and NoMoRobo – both the result of contests sponsored by the FTC –  beg the question: Why aren’t  the major phone companies solving this problem given their vast resources and outraged customer base?

Hopefully, the companies will start to catch up and catch on. At least implement the solutions like Robokiller and Nomorobo across their networks that the FTC contests are providing for them.
