Elizabeth (Betsy) Imholz
1535 Mission Street
San Francisco, CA 94103
Betsy moved to California 24 years ago, after 11 years as a public interest attorney in New York City. Beginning at CU in San Francisco in 1994, she focused on lobbying in the California legislature and advocating on policy issues related to insurance, health care, trade school regulation, and general consumer protection. From 1999 to 2006, she was Director of the West Coast Office, overseeing the office’s core work and grant-funded projects. She returned to her first love, consumer advocacy, as Director of Special Projects for CU in September 2006 and has focused intensively on health reform since then.
Before coming to CU, Betsy was the Consumer Law Coordinator of Legal Services for New York City and represented low-income clients at the esteemed South Brooklyn Legal Services. Betsy graduated from Rutgers School of Law-Newark, and received her undergraduate degree from Columbia University. Betsy’s two older children Jennifer and Bill live in New York; her youngest child Owen resides in Los Angeles. She has the most beautiful commute in the world: ferrying across the San Francisco Bay, with a spectacular view of Mt. Tamalpais!
