In what Peter Orszag calls, ““probably the most important piece that can be added” to the healthcare bill in the House,” Rep. Waxman (D-Calif.) and Blue Dog Democrats have reached a tentative agreement to give an outside panel—rather than congress—the authority to set Medicare payment rates.

Jonathon Cohn analyzes the cost of the House healthcare bill. He questions whether it would pay for itself within ten years, beyond ten years and whether it actually reduces the cost of healthcare.
