There’s some good news for millions of older teens and young adults struggling to find health coverage – they can now remain on their parents’ health insurance policies until the age of 26, whether they are in school or not.

This new rule gives some much-needed relief for recent graduates who can’t find a job with health coverage, or those young adults who have lost their insurance due to the difficult job market.

Of course, today’s youth often doesn’t think about the importance of having health coverage. Which is why Consumers Union is sponsoring our “So You Think You’re Invincible?” video Facebook contest. The winner gets $1,000 and their video featured on

The contest challenges participants to show the world why it’s a good idea to have the option of staying on their parents’ coverage longer, especially for those who think they’re bulletproof. Entrants can submit their 3-minute videos and read the official rules at the contest’s website:

If you’re a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle who has family members who could benefit from this provision – and could use $1,000 – tell them about our contest by sharing it at the links below.

Or if you are a teen or young adult, get to work on your creative video now. The contest submissions end October 23, 2010. Your masterpiece could be the one that will inform the rest of the nation’s youth about this important new health reform benefit.
