More Momentum In NYS! GMO Labeling Bill Passes Out Of Codes Committee
By Consumers Union on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014
The NYS Assembly’s Codes Committee today passed with 15 votes bill A.3525 which would require the labeling GMOs! This is another good step forward for activists and advocates who have been fighting to give consumers the right to know what is in their food.
Now for the bill to move forward in the NYS Assembly, the Speaker of the house, Shelly Silver, will have to give it his blessing.
However, Monsanto and the biotech industry are fighting harder than ever to slow the nationwide momentum to label GMOs. The members of the Assembly’s Code Committee today decided to put consumers’ right above intense corporate lobbying to defeat any efforts that would require GMO labeling. Now is the time for Speaker Silver to also do right by consumers and allow this bill to come before the entire Assembly.
