Weekly Stories from You: The Clog Your Plumbers Hate Most
At Consumers Union, we’re listening to you. We’ve heard how tired you are of robocalls invading your home phone, interrupting your dinner, and ruining your sleep schedule. But if you thought robocalls could only affect your landline, then we urge you to think again. Tammy of Lorena, Texas recently wrote to us and shared the woes of facing a cellphone clogged with robocalls as a small business owner.
“As small plumbing company owners, my husband and I have our hands full doing as much as we can to maintain our daily operation. Our cell phones are essential to us making timely job performances including customer contact, scheduling, suppliers, banking, accounting and so forth. In our case of being a small company, we each play very diverse roles in order to maintain our company which includes not having a person on staff to man the phone for our customers…we are still the voice our customers will hear when calling to be scheduled. Not wanting to miss any opportunity, is it only natural that we will stop what we are doing to answer the phone regardless of the number or lack of number on the display. It is extremely annoying to hear, “Hi this is Kate calling about your.. business page’, or ‘It has been brought to our attention that you need to update your information’, or ‘Hi, we are a small lending business looking for your business”, and so on and so on. This has happened to me countless times…mostly daily, and even if I block the number that shows up on my caller id somehow “Kate” has another number in a different area code on standby.”
Tammy and her husband should be rewarded for wanting to provide excellent customer service to clients, not hindered by uninvited robocalls. As cellphones become the lifeline of many small businesses, the importance of gaining access to call blocking tools is only heightened. That’s why we’re calling on phone companies to hear our complaints and change the way they allow consumers to manage their calls. Join our campaign now and sign our petition here!
